Nike will move into the space that used to be the Microsoft Store.

Nike will open a storefront in Bellevue Square. It will be located on the first level, between Chanel and Madewell.

The store will offer footwear, apparel and accessories. The new space will be 8,883 square feet.

There are currently 250 Nike stores in the United States. This will be the first storefront to open on the Eastside. In recent years, a Nike factory store has opened in Factoria, which offers products from previous seasons or with minor defects.

Chanel is also expected to open adjacent to this location, in fall 2022. The store will focus on fragrances and beauty products like perfume, makeup and sunglasses.

Although vacant since March 2020, this location was previously the Microsoft Store. Microsoft announced in June 2020 that it would close its 83 Microsoft Store outlets. The store opened in Bellevue Square in November 2010.

Microsoft explained that they focused on their online retail store, largely due to the need to adapt during COVID-19. The company said it will continue to invest in digital innovations across software and hardware.

The pace of Nike store openings is accelerating as the sportswear giant continues its shift towards more direct sales.

Source: Nike is aggressively opening new stores as it continues its direct-to-consumer plan. Wall Street is not sold on the strategy.

Business Insider has released a list of upcoming Nike store openings. In 2020, Nike has charted a course to connect with its consumers through additional brand doors. In 2017, however, at Scale of Sport’s Investor Day, the action plan was detailed and the name Consumer Direct Offense was given to their direct-to-consumer strategy which included shutting down wholesale accounts. At the time, it became clear that the brand’s longtime partners should consider life without Nike, as the brand made adjustments to its strategy by finalizing the removal of Futures and emphasizing their experience. in-app which attracted 3x purchases. of a visit to Nike’s dot com. This expansion of Nike sites continues an understudied trend that I began documenting in 2014.

What analysts, journalists and sneaker culture continue to ignore with Nike account cancellations

Nike’s DTC and direct revenue growth and store growth

2014 (768 Nike stores)

2015 DTC 6.6 billion (832 stores)

2016 DTC 7.9 billion (919 stores)

DTC 2017 revenue 9.1 billion (985 stores)

A Nike Store causes wholesale accounts to shrink organically. When Nike adds locations, they don’t just add retail doors. The action plan is strategic and anchored in the data extracted from their applications. Think of it as a singer using Spotify or YouTube data to create tour dates. If Austin, TX is a hotspot for streams and views, Austin becomes a must stop on a tour. Nike is a technology-driven company that is constantly working on ways to connect with the consumer and every in-app engagement provides proof of how well a Nike store performs. Store openings in the Bronx and Silver Spring are already being celebrated and promoted.

Can Nike.com Japan’s new delivery service spread to the United States?

Concerns from Wall Street, BOPIS and Konbini

Wall Street’s worries seem a bit unwarranted when you look at the list above documenting DTC’s revenue growth as more Nike stores open. Of course, investing in real estate is always a burden on a business, but it seems Wall Street hasn’t been paying attention to Nike’s numbers and its international business strategies that have been implemented, especially Buy Online Pick Up in Store (BOPIS) and Nike. Konbini. In a recent article on Mary Dillon and Foot Locker, I stated that Foot Locker’s Power Stores provide a unique opportunity for the retailer. I said that because of the BOPIS and Locker Opportunities. As Nike is encroaching on the territory of their remaining wholesale accounts, this can be considered a technological advantage comparable to Amazon and Whole Foods. When Amazon acquired Whole Foods, they lowered prices, but it was the ability to put Amazon Lockers in those locations that improved in-store shopping times. Nike mimics tech companies. There’s almost a guarantee that Nike’s pilot with Amazon has provided information for use in store expansion. I’ve talked about Konbini many times here on the site, but only in regards to local bodegas and grocery stores.

Nike retail stores are destination shopping experiences and low-income families will save money for family trips into town to visit a Nike clearance or factory outlet. This is a topic very rarely discussed by analysts as they are not at the street level of Nike’s business, and they cannot measure the impact of the spot customer, but this is the opportunity. BOPIS and integrating the cash customer into Nike’s digital economy that holds the most value. All neighborhoods are facing porch hijackers and theft, but many neighborhoods are unable to participate in the digital economy and Nike’s digital declines due to delivery issues to apartment complexes and porches not Covered. Nike relied heavily on Shoe Palace, Foot Locker, City Gear and DTLR to meet cash customer needs. As Cash App, PayPal, Venmo, and other digital wallets become more prominent, it follows that consumers will seek to gain the same access to products that they have traditionally been unable to obtain. If Nike introduces “Nike HOLD – Online Delivery Help” (don’t search, I just created the name and acronym), new Unite stores become capable of being monetized in a unique and extremely profitable way. Think of a Unite store with customizable Nike By You products and put your kicks in The HOLD until you can pick them up. What seems insignificant to those participating in the digital economy is only trivial because it is accessible. Nike’s revenue has been shown to increase with the addition of Nike stores, and the closer Nike gets to all of its consumers, even as a full-price luxury brand, the more revenue they will increase.

What happened?

The 32-year-old has been sponsored by the sportswear brand for many years throughout the striker’s impressive and trophy-filled career.

Vilakazi even featured in their 2015 unveiling of the local boot called Magista. This long-standing relationship has led to a long list of boots collected over the years that would make most people jealous.

However, the benefits of being brand sponsored don’t just extend to boots as you can get kits, jerseys, shorts or any other item they release.

The footballer recently took to Instagram to thank Nike after leaving with not one but three bags of new stock.

While many would have liked to see what he got himself, the striker hasn’t revealed what’s in his big orange bags.

Life at the Galaxy?

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — After a shooter shot in a crowded Nike store at the Mall of America on Thursday, work is underway to prevent another shooting inside the huge shopping complex.

The Bloomington Mall reopened on Friday with more security in place. However, the Nike store remains closed as investigators work to locate the shooter and another man.

As the police piece together what happened, the mall’s store managers do their own debriefing.

Home & Beyond store manager April Kimball had a similar experience on New Years Eve, when a gunman opened fire on the third level of the malll, injuring two people, including a passerby.

Kimball says his staff’s response to this most recent shooting has been less chaotic and more like a drill. His staff, which includes his two daughters, locked the doors, turned off the lights and walked with a dozen customers to the back room.

Dozens of security cameras cover the ceilings inside the Mall of America. One of them is located near the Nike store. However, the police have yet to release the surveillance footage.

On Friday, shoppers and store managers at the mall said they noticed additional uniformed officers, as well as undercover officers, wearing headphones and carrying two-way radios.

Crowd sizes, officials said, appeared to be slightly smaller than normal.

A shooting at the Mall of America sent the mall into lockdown Thursday afternoon, with police calling it an isolated incident.

Police do not believe anyone was shot and injured when someone opened fire inside the Mall of America on Thursday, creating panic and sending the mall into lockdown.

Officers responded to the mall around 4:15 p.m. for the shooting. Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said it appears the shooting began with a dispute between two groups at the cash registers inside the Nike store. The conflict ended with one person drawing a gun and firing shots.

“They decided to demonstrate a complete lack of respect for human life,” Chief Hodges said. “They decided to fire several bullets into a store with people.”

Chief Hodges says at this stage of the investigation, it does not appear that anyone was injured by the gunfire. Still, the police are looking for the suspects involved in the case.

Blood allegedly found at the scene appears to be from a trip and fall of a guest leaving the mall.

Police Research at Best Western

Following shots fired at the mall, police spent hours searching the Best Western Hotel on Killebrew Drive on the south side of the mall. Police said they have information the suspects may have been there. But, in the end, the search ended without arrest.

Second shoot in less than a year

Neither the mall nor Chief Hodges had a solution to prevent future acts of violence like Thursday’s shooting in the future.

Chief Hodges says his officers were not far from the mall when shots were fired and crews arrived on the scene within 30 seconds.

“If someone decides they don’t value human life and they choose to pull out a gun, I don’t know what we can do,” the chief said. “We train for this, we do this…but if an individual decides they have no respect for human life, I don’t know of any defense for that.”

No one appears to have been injured in Thursday’s shooting. But that wasn’t the case in December when another mall shooting on New Year’s Eve left two people injured. During this incident, someone opened fire on the third floor of the mall.

Speaking on Thursday, mall spokesman Dan Jasper said there will be increased security and policing on Friday morning when the mall reopens and in the coming days. Jasper says the mall will explore “all options” to keep mall customers safe. But, Jasper wasn’t sure about the feasibility of the mall adding metal detectors to the doors.

“We continue to review all security options and try to determine what makes the most sense,” Jasper said. “Honestly, it’s an open building in an open society. Metal detectors are not common in retail or food retail or most places we go. But we have a lot of other security devices in place, including highly trained officers, including security cameras, including other technologies that we use that the guest never sees, that we implement to ensure their safety.

Three local business updates to report from our last update in April. Patatas Neighborhood Kitchen on Adeline has closed after opening five years ago. Demolition on Bay Street is nearing completion to make way for a licensed grocery store, and Longfellow Food Hall has rolled out a slew of new options.

Closed: Cuisine Patatas Sur Adeline

Patatas Kitchen on Adeline announced its closure last week. Their last day there was June 3.

“We are grateful for the support over the past 6 years and feel honored to have served our wonderful neighborhood,” they announced in an email newsletter. “Please continue to support your local businesses, your support means more than you can imagine.”

Original potatoes opened in 2017 replacement of the ephemeral Commonwealth Micropub (and Café Bier and Furenzo before that). Patatas struggled to attract consistent foot traffic and catering service suspended in 2019 focus on catering and delivery.

“We closed our doors for various reasons,” Patatas owner Marcos Quezada said when contacted. “Rising supplier costs, difficulties finding staff for day-to-day operations and ultimately the difficult effects the pandemic has had on small businesses around the world.”

Quezada noted that this wouldn’t necessarily be the end of Patatas. “Although this is the end of a chapter at 3986 Adeline St., we are working to continue with a new business model in the near future.”

Businesses on the Adeline Strip between 40th Street and San Pablo Avenue have been particularly hard hit as hip hop juice box closed last October and Monster Pho 2 has indefinitely suspended catering service.

Demolition of Bay Street and Nike store

Bay Street revitalization efforts are in full swing with the demolition of several buildings to make way for a unnamed grocery store. The old Old Navy/EQ3/Elephant Bar buildings have all been razed in the past two weeks.

Construction is also underway at the former Banana Republic Women store which will make way for a Nike Store. Bay Street previously had a Nike store that closed about eight years ago.

The prominent corner space has remained blatantly vacant since Banana closed the site in 2020 opening of a “Factory” location at the nearby Powell Street Plaza.

Bay Street has also upgraded its parking meters to accept credit cards.

Adeline’s Longfellow Food Hall continues to expand its now listed food offering 16 options on their website. They originally opened last november with only 9 of their 35 stalls occupied.

New additions include Mochill Mochi Donuts, LuLu’s Chinese, Forbidden Pho, Three Pizzerias and what seems to be a place that serves the trend Birria style tacos named “Kam’s” (coming soon).

Take-out orders can be placed for in-person pickup through their website.
