Nike Store being prepared for Washington Street in Hoboken
One of the biggest sneaker and apparel brands in the world seems to have Hoboken in mind, as a prominent building along the city’s main thoroughfare may soon house one of its outlets.
A Baby Gap store at 222 Washington Street has already started offering discounts on its items, as it is expected to close next month. A separate retail space next to the store has been vacant for many years, but Nike is looking to change that with a redesign of the ground floor of the building.

The Hoboken Historic Preservation Committee heard plans at their Dec. 6 meeting to combine the two storefronts into a larger space covering approximately 7,000 square feet. The plan, designed by Nastasi Architects, will replace and reconfigure a front door while repairing lighting and repainting the exterior facade of the property.
The nomination submitted to the committee includes Nike’s signature “swoosh” on signage, but the brand has yet to publicly announce its intentions for the space. Nike did not respond to an inquiry we placed on whether the property will indeed house one of its outlet stores, a retail option that has yet to find its way to the county. Hudson.

Nike operates several of its outlet stores in Manhattan and one in downtown Newark near Prudential’s headquarters. The brand’s other Garden State locations are in malls such as Bergen Town Center in Paramus, Elizabeth’s The Mills in Jersey Gardens, Jackson Premium Outlets and Jersey Shore Premium Outlets in Tinton Falls.
