The first known pair of regular season shoes worn by Michael Jordan auctioned on Sunday for $1.472 million, breaking the record for the most expensive sneakers ever sold, according to Sotheby’s.

The shoes, “Nike Air Ships”, were from Jordan’s fifth game of the 1984 rookie season with the Chicago Bulls, a 129-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets. In the game, which took place on November 1 of that year, Jordan recorded 33 minutes and scored 17 points with five assists and five rebounds. Jordan gifted them to then-Nuggets ballboy TJ Lewis, who had kept them ever since. The shoes are also signed in red pen.

They were sold at Sotheby’s Icons of Excellence & Haute Luxury auction in Las Vegas, and the buyer was high-end sports card and memorabilia collector Nick Fiorella, Sotheby’s said in a statement.

“Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand helped redefine what a signature line formed around an athlete could be,” Brahm Wachter, head of Sotheby’s Streetwear and Modern Collectables, said in a statement. “This pair, from Michael’s fifth NBA game, truly touches two worlds as the Nike Air Ship holds a special place in the hearts of sneakerheads as a precursor to the Air Jordan 1, but beyond that, it’s also simply an incredible artifact that dates back to the beginning of Michael Jordan’s rookie season.”

According to Sotheby’s, this pair of shoes ranks second among the most expensive shoes ever sold, behind the Yeezy 1 prototypes that rapper Kanye West wore to the 2008 Grammy Awards which sold for $1.8 million in April in a Sotheby’s private sale.

The 1984 season was the first of Jordan’s 15-year NBA career, during which he was a 14-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA draft pick, 10-time scoring champion, five-time NBA MVP and a six-time NBA Finals champion, among many other accolades in his career.

A member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Jordan also won the 1984-85 NBA Rookie of the Year award, the same season he wore the shoes auctioned off Sunday. Jordan averaged 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 82 games that season.

NBA superstar Kyrie Irving is almost as famous for his unabashed candor as he is for his spectacular basketball exploits. Well, the mass exposure of its own Nike shoes will only add to its reputation and send shivers down the spine of the apparel and footwear giant.

The brilliant Brooklyn Nets shot-stopper ripped pieces of Nike’s skin when he said the footwear giant didn’t involve him in the design of the shoe’s eighth edition. Therefore, Irving wants nothing to do with them and won’t wear them because he thinks the shoes are “trash”.

“Have nothing to do with the design or marketing of the next #Kyrie8, IMO this is rubbish!” Irving spat with venom on Instagram. “I have absolutely nothing to do with them! Nike plans to release it without my consent no matter what I say, so I apologize in advance to all my sneakerheads and true supporters of the #KAI11 brand.

According to Bloomberg, Kyrie’s Nike shoes are one of the best-selling brands in the NBA. The shoemaking giant has created several versions of the Kyrie shoe since signing Irving in 2011 when he was the No. 1 pick for the Cleveland Cavs over Duke.

Therefore, Irving and others do not know why the sniper was excluded from the process.

Irving has made no further public statement regarding the brand or its stark assessment of the Kyrie 8 shoes. Nike has also remained silent on the matter.

There’s no indication of when the shoes were made available to the public, or why Nike chose not to include the dazzling ballhandler in the designs.

The images focus solely on Serena’s feet, capturing the inspirational words etched there.

The Global Photo Repository uploaded the images to its official Twitter page with the message, “Serena Williams’ Nike tennis shoes, with the phrases ‘Never Stop Fighting’ and ‘I don’t like losing at anything but…I grew up not from wins but setbacks’.

Additionally, the shoes are also engraved with the name of her three-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia.

Motivational messages on her shoes remind her to do her best every time she steps onto the court.

And, fighting is precisely what the 39-year-old champion has in mind when she arrives in the French capital.

She is struggling to shake off the bogeyman of winning her 24th career Grand Slam title in the last three years and would like to end her wait at Roland Garros.

Serena has a tough road to glory at Roland Garros

Serena entered the Australian Open this year, hoping to end her title drought and match Margaret Court’s legendary career in Grand Slam trophies in her native country.

She seemed to be racing towards her goal, laying down her opponents with usually effortless wins, aided by her brutal power play, until she met her nemesis, Naomi Osaka, in the semi-finals.

The American couldn’t bring her best match to the park on the day it mattered the most, falling in straight sets to the Japanese star, who ultimately won the title.

EXETER – Due to high demand and low supply, George & Phillips owner Bert Freedman has figured out a way to sell the highly anticipated new Nike Air Max Exeter Edition running shoes fairly, while supporting a local cause .

Freedman said his store had only received 11 pairs of Exeter Edition shoes for sale, which were previously intended to be sold directly to customers through Nike’s SNKRS app. Nike’s sales team decided to “break their own rules” and send a shipment to their former local independent factory outlet. Nike had a factory on Front Street from 1974 to 1983.

Freedman said he has already generated interest from more than three dozen people wanting to purchase a pair of Exeter Edition shoes.

Historically speaking: Nike in Exeter

With only 11 pairs, he decided the fairest thing to do was to hold a raffle. He said he decided to partner with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul community support center to raffle off the chance to buy one of 11 pairs for $200, with $50 from each sale going to SVdP.

“I didn’t expect to get a lot of shoes,” Freedman said. “What I like the most is that we can help St. Vincent de Paul in the process. I said let’s do a fundraiser that will help the community while everyone is excited about these shoes. Saint Vincent de Paul has done such a good job over the years helping those in need.

“I thought that was the fairest way to sell the shoes to anyone who wants a pair,” Freedman said. “Now that Cléo Castonguay has passed away, (fundraising) is a way to help carry on his legacy. All the volunteers they get, it shows you what the world really needs right now.

Molly Zirillo, executive director of SVdP, said it was a “pleasant surprise” when Freedman reached out and wanted to partner for the raffle, calling it a “unique opportunity” to own a piece of the contemporary history of Exeter.

Read more: Why Nike ‘breaks its own rules’ to sell Exeter Edition shoes to George and Phillips

“Bert has always been a huge supporter of us, so we’re really grateful he thought of us when he came up with the idea for the raffle,” Zirillo said. “George & Phillips, those shoes, Nike, they’re all part of our history as a city. Between our history as an industrial city, the Nike factory and now how they broke their own rules to allow Bert to sell some of the shoes. It’s great because it will go towards helping our neighbors in Exeter who are in need.

Freedman said anyone can enter the raffle until April 28. He said the winners would be drawn and posted on Facebook on May 1.

“Even if people aren’t interested in buying the shoes, they should still donate to St. Vincent de Paul because they really need the support,” Freedman said. “We’re trying to figure out how to have a Facebook Live event where we’ll post a video of us drawing names. Just keep an eye on our Facebook page and we’ll post updates on the draw throughout the month.

As many avid runners can tell you, nothing’s worse than stepping into new shoes and getting your money back with everything from arch pain and blisters to Achilles tendinitis and an increased risk of heart failure. ‘ankle sprain. Athletes can expect a lot from their shoes. Go faster. Travel further. Become stronger as design technology advances. And probably, do it without injury. You might think injury-free footwear is a given, but surprisingly, it’s more common than you might think.

Every year, running shoe companies face injury prevention issues, and when dealing with these issues, each company adopts a different philosophy. Xero Shoes is a company specializing in minimalist footwear for runners. When it comes to its shoes, Xero proudly relies on design principles revolving around thin, flexible soles more likely familiar to ancient sandal wearers of the past than modern runners today. Some shoe companies are also pushing the boundaries of shoe design.

the React to infinity, one of Nike’s most popular shoes, claims to reduce the overall risk of sustaining an injury with advanced features. the React to infinity is a more stable base (to keep your feet on the ground), an engineered rocker (to help your feet move smoothly) and a cushioned running shoe designed to help with shock absorption, resells more cushioning foam (so that your foot is more surrounded by foam). Another of his popular shoes is the Nike Structure 22, a motion control shoe which, as the name suggests, controls the movement of the feet through a stiffer structure.

In an independent study by the British Columbia Sports Medicine Research Foundation (BCSMRF), runners were tasked with recording injuries sustained during a 12-week training program – logging more than 60,000 miles. Nike says they’ve achieved results by doing less than their best-selling motion control shoes, the Nike Structure 22 and React Infinity shoes have reduced injury rates among runners. But the reality is a bit different from the numbers. So how effective are motion control shoes or cushioned shoes when it comes to injury prevention? Just look at the data.

In a world where advances in cushioned, padded, arch-supporting, and motion-controlled footwear reign supreme, why do running injuries seem to persist? The BCSMRF study indicated that 33 runners wearing Nike Zoom Structure 22 and 17 runners wearing Nike Infinity React were injured, out of 226 runners during the study. Thus, 50 of the 226 runners suffered some form of knee, foot, shin or calf injury. Suppose half of the runners are wearing Nike Zoom Structure 22s and the other half are wearing Nike React Infinity? Then, 1 of 3 runners wearing Infinity React and 1 of 7 runners wearing Zoom Structure 22 would be injured while running. Does this figure inspire confidence in running enthusiasts? And that’s not even taking into account injuries that might get worse over time, or if you try to run a marathon.

Steven SachenCEOand Lena Phoenix, Chief Financial Officer of Xero Shoes I think this is another case of how adding more to a product can actually make it worse. “It sounds ironic, but it’s the truth,” says Steven Sachen. “We launched Xero Shoes to give people – whether they have run or not – the comfort and benefits of this natural movement experience. And with nearly 27,000 five-star reviews on their website, customers seem to think Xero is on the right track, too. Modern running shoes as we know them first appeared in the 60s. But, according to Sachen, the number, type and severity of injuries we know now also did not exist then.

Human feet are made to bend, flex, move and feel the world. A quarter of the bones and joints in your entire body are in your feet and ankles; you have more nerve endings in your soles than anywhere except your fingers and lips. Mankind, for nearly 10,000 years, seemed to do just fine with bare feet and simple sandals. The natural motion design is based on the idea that “simpler is better”. And Xero thinks the same when it comes to its own shoes, even basing its designs on real 10,000-year-old sagebrush sandals. Xero’s flexible soles are designed to give wearers the right combination of traction, ground feedback, and protection, while being so light that some customers have even gone to bed forgetting they were wearing them.

With a growth line of casual and performance shoes, boots and sandals, Xero Shoes has helped people in 97 countries do it all, from taking a more relaxed stroll on the beach, to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and even running a race. of seven days of 256 km through Madagascar. Xero Shoes believes the quality of its natural motion shoes is so good that it backs every purchase with a unique 5,000 mile guarantee – a guarantee that exceeds those offered by other similar companies.

Designed with a focus on Natural Fit, Natural Motion and Natural Feel, Xero’s emphasis on simplicity never compromises your running performance. Comfort and performance come from the natural use of your feet, and that’s what Xero Shoes lets you do.

Nike customers chilled their heels on Saturday as they lined up outside the brand’s flagship store at the Fashion Valley mall. Most ignored a small sign posted at the window.

It was one of 10 mini-posters primarily related to COVID. But this was aimed at a particular clientele.

Next to a blue ear graphic, it read: “If you prefer to be assisted by an employee who wears a transparent face mask, or if you require another accommodation, please ask an employee for assistance .”

Carlsbad attorney James Clapp was happy to hear the sign had been posted. This meant that the settlement of his lawsuit with Nike had taken effect.

“The ear is the international sign for hearing access,” Clapp said. “People like me who are deaf look for this symbol if we need housing, and I personally think it’s prominent enough for a deaf person to notice instantly.”

US federal authorities are asking for help in identifying a suspect in connection with pipe bombs found in the Republican and Democratic national committees on January 6, the day of the violent storming of the Capitol building by supporters of President Donald Trump. Photos of the individual don’t leave much room. His face – assuming it is a man – is covered with a mask, and the hood of his sweatshirt hides the rest of his head. His clothes are simple and offer no clear identifying details.

Thus, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) request if anyone recognizes the more discernible aspects of her outfit, her backpack and sneakers. Online amateur sleuths wasted no time in identifying the shoes as the Nike Air Max Speed Turf. If they’re right, the shoes aren’t very common, which could help the FBI narrow down the number of suspects.

FBI

Online sleuths identified them as the Nike Air Max Speed Turf.

Sneaker fans may know the Air Max Speed Turf as a style from the mid-1990s. Nike reintroduced them in 2012 and released more versions in 2018, including two color combinations that may be the shoes seen on the suspect. Unlike widely distributed styles, such as Nike’s popular Air Force 1, there aren’t millions of pairs on the streets of the United States, and although they are available on resale sites such as eBay and StockX, they aren’t traded with the same fervor as sought-after styles such as Air Jordans. That means a limited number of people are likely to own a pair, and the distinctive look makes them relatively easy to spot.
